Where you get your ideas you're so creative in all your comics and I adore them! But I'm finding it so hard to make new things, I never used to have this problem. when I was younger I would draw and write constantly but now I feel I'm out of ways to be creative without feeling like I'm copying others work and I'm scared to try anymore, I really want to be a director but I want to be unique and original and I feel trapped and limited do you ever experience that? Is there a way you can get over it?
There’s no secret answer to ‘Where do you get your ideas from?’ - the more you show up to work, the easier the ideas come. The worst thing to do is STOP creating because you don’t feel like you can think of anything original. Keep working, keep grinding - sometimes it’s a grind for me, but the more you force yourself to keep trying, stuff happens. So keep going, don’t stop! Read my ‘Advice for beginners’ comic - that directly addresses your problem - good luck!
How did your style come about? I really like it, and I think it's refreshing, and your work makes me happy in a way that most other cartoons don't. I think you are really filling a niche in a beautiful way.
How does an artist’s style come about? You usually throw in a childhood of influences (in my case: Bill Watterson, Jeff Smith, Looney Tunes, early days of Image comics, Tintin) into a blender, copy their style because you don’t know any better and after years of practicing and refining, a unique and personal style is created. You basically just draw and draw and draw and over time you begin to develop your own voice.
